“John Winkin, the baseball coach, came to me and wanted to know if I would be benefactor of the baseball program. So, I started giving money to Maine for the baseball program and that program became famous. They played every big school in the country. That’s how I came to be involved in University of Maine philanthropy. They came to me with a good idea and they listened to my conditions. There was another factor, too. They were the only guys who ever asked me.” “For all the people I’ve met and places I’ve been, receiving an Honorary Doctorate from Maine was probably the nicest thing that ever happened to me. It is something special to be King in your own country.”
“Everyone should have heroes. I have always had heroes and most of them had been educators.” "My son, Kevin, is one of my heroes. He’s very respectful of me and I of him. He’s very principled and he’s added a lot of value to my life.”
“Family, when all else falls apart, are the ones who are there for you.” From

“I made one big decision that allowed me to be successful
in the long run: I started building some outside interests
of my own, away from Webber Oil.”
“If I had a few things to say to people I care about,
one of them would be ‘Dare to be great’. Try to
win but even if you can’t at least make the effort. It’s
not how you fall, it’s how you get up. And I love
the saying from St. Bart’s Ode: “I am wounded but
I am not slain, I’ll lay me down to bleed a while and
then I’ll rise and fight again.”
