The Mahaney Dome: Dedication and Game 6 May 2006
 |
The Mahaney Dome
at the University of Maine |
In 2000 Larry made an offer to his alma mater: to finance
a multi-purpose dome on campus to give Maine teams much needed
space to practice throughout the long Maine winters.
The $1
million practice facility was completed this Fall and was due
to be dedicated in May 2006. Larry had been looking forward
to the event. Its dedication and the celebration of its benefactor’s
life and
legacy shared the day on May 6th.

The air-supported dome is a tremendous campus resource. The
200 foot x 200 foot structure stands 55 feet high at the center,
and is usable year-round in all weather conditions. It gives
Black Bear student-athletes who play football, soccer, baseball,
softball, field hockey, lacrosse, or rugby an indoor practice
facility complete with a state-of-the-art artificial surface.
It benefits the community as well as Maine teams and will help
ensure the future success of Black Bear athletics, as Larry
intended.
